May 2007 Sri Lanka – A scoping exercise was undertaken to facilitate the creation of a Strategic Development Division for the Sri Lanka Police Service. This exercise was delivered in partnership with the Security Sector Development Advisory Team (SSDAT).
June 2007 Sri Lanka - Six senior officers, including a Deputy Inspector General of Police, attended the Scottish Police College and undertook an intense six week bespoke training programme to create a community based policing strategy for Sri Lanka and develop the operational processes and plans to deliver it. This programme was delivered in partnership with SSDAT.
September 2007 Sri Lanka – Further work to develop the Sri Lanka Police Service Strategic Development Division was undertaken. This included 20 Sri Lanka Police officers being trained in operational aspects of community policing. This project was supported by SSDAT and the FCO.
January 2008 Sri Lanka – The College delivered a strategic level community safety training programme for new staff from the Strategic Development Division and operational training for 42 police commanders with responsibility for delivering community policing. This project was supported by the Security Sector Development Advisory Team via the FCO.
August 2010 – March 2013 Sri Lanka – The Scottish Police College was delighted to be supported by the Scottish Government to develop community policing in Sri Lanka. In the first phase: August 2010 – March 2011 this comprised i) the development of a new qualification, in partnership with the Scottish Qualifications Authority, an International Vocational Award in Community Policing, ii) the development of a governance structure for the programme, and iii) completing a baseline assessment in order to inform an independent longitudinal impact assessment for the programme.
