ACDP Sub-Committee
The ACDP Sub-Committee has responsibility for setting direction, maintaining an overview of the Programme and considering relevant issues, including outcomes from the aptitude tests.
ACDP Co-ordinator
The ACDP Co-ordinator is responsible for the strategic management of the Programme and serves as a link between all key stakeholders.
ACDP Force Liaison Officers
Each Scottish police force and British Transport Police has a representative responsible for managing local procedural arrangements and acting as a local point of contact.
Line Managers
Line managers collate evidence for and complete the relevant appraisal / personal development review. Where possible, they should identify opportunities for skills development and facilitate involvement to assist ACDP officers gain as wide and diverse a base of experience as possible.
Mentoring
The ACDP employs a system of mentoring in recognition of the heightened challenges and steep learning curves that ACDP officers often face. Mentors act as an informal sounding board for ideas and concerns of mentees and can offer assistance in terms of giving general advice and guidance.
Professional Development Events
A series of Professional Development Events are held for ACDP officers. These aim to assist personal growth, supplement learning on key themes and provide a platform for networking, discussion and the exchange of ideas. Ordinarily five such events are run yearly.
ACDP Force Liaison Officers and line managers are encouraged to make every effort to facilitate the attendance of ACDP officers at these events.
Further Developmental Events
Details of a wide range of further developmental opportunities are circulated to ACDP officers and Force Liaison officers. These include coaching sessions, Scottish Institute for Policing Research (SIPR) events, joint-agency seminars, masterclasses, conferences, and continuous professional development and leadership tutorials together with information on emerging and existing qualifications.
Personal Development Plan
ACDP officers must maintain a personal development plan which evidences specific personal and professional development needs together with achievable outcomes or aspirations. The plan will identify key growth activities to achieve these outcomes and encourage reflection on, and review of, personal developments put into practice.
Case Conferences
An ACDP case conference should be held towards the end of each placement to consider the officer’s performance during that period and developmental possibilities for the next posting(s).
Whilst the most recent appraisal will form the basis of the meeting in terms of performance evaluation, the officer’s personal development plan will also be considered together with the needs of the force to assist a decision as to a next posting.
Postings
ACDP officers should undertake all postings with a clear learning agenda coupled with specific objectives aimed at building upon their skills and knowledge. These will be outlined within the personal development plan and closely considered during case conferences to ensure continued growth and development.
Senior Careers Development Service (SCDS)
The ACDP is closely aligned to the Senior Careers Development Service to ensure the best possible service in assisting officers realise their full potential and best meet continually evolving leadership challenges within the service.
