This act now applies to the police service and is designed to end discrimination against disabled people by giving rights in certain areas, one of these being employment.
A disabled person is defined under the Disability Discrimination Act as someone with a “physical or mental impairment, which has substantial and long-term adverse effect on that person’s ability to carry out normal day to day activities”.
If you have any disability that you believe is covered by this legislation we are prepared to make any reasonable adjustments to our recruitment process that ensure you are not unfairly discriminated against. Please contact the Recruitment Team in the first instance for further guidance and discussion. You need not declare the nature of the disability but confine yourself to the reasonable adjustments you are seeking to be implemented.
Also contained in the application form is an Equal Opportunities monitoring section. It asks if you are disabled under the terms of the Act. This form is removed prior to being passed to the recruitment team who will not be aware of its contents.
