Medical Assesment

Stage 5 – Medical Assesment
A pre-employment medical examination will take place on behalf of the Force to which you are applying, their recommendations are not disclosed until all other aspects of the recruitment process are complete, in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act.

If you are successful at the Assessment Centre, you will be given a medical questionnaire and an eyesight form to have completed. Please note that you must have one part of the form completed by your GP and another part completed by an optician. It is imperative that your medical paperwork is returned to the recruitment team within 2 weeks.

These forms will only be looked at by the home force Occupational Health provider and will only be acted upon prior to the medical if there is further information required from your doctor, or the information provided calls into question your ability to carry out the role of police officer.

If you have failed the process due to a medical condition, the force occupational health provider will advise you of this and whether or not a future application would be considered in relation to the medical condition you have.

Please note that the medical criteria are constantly under review so previous exclusions may no longer apply.

THE MEDICAL EXAMINATION IS THE FINAL PART OF THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS. IF YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL, YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED DIRECTLY BY A MEMBER OF THE RECRUITMENT TEAM. HOWEVER, YOU SHOULD NOT TERMINATE YOUR EMPLOYMENT WITH YOUR CURRENT EMPLOYER UNTIL YOU HAVE AN OFFER OF APPOINTMENT, IN WRITING.
