Diploma in Police Service Leadership and Management (DPSLM)

This qualification looks at the important areas of Leadership and Management and Policing in Scotland. 

The core course material together with the support material is delivered on SOLUS. However there are other elements of the course which use other means of delivery.

The core modules contained on SOLUS are:

  • Developing Skills for Personal Effectiveness
  • Contemporary Policing
  • The Criminal Justice System in Scotland
  • Professional Knowledge in Policing
  • Professional Ethics
  • Decision Making
  • Organisational Management
  • People Management
  • Leadership

These modules are supported by an examinations support pack and an academic writing guide.

Target Audience

Access to the Diploma is open to serving police officers in Scotland.

  • Candidates must be a serving police officer, and
  • have successfully completed their probationer training (2 years min)

Registration Process

Candidates must seek nomination and support from their force.  The programme will take 18 months to complete and will involve approx 8 hours of study per week.  Officers nominated through the Accelerated Promotion Scheme will also follow the same study path.
