NIM Policy
Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary
The force has endorsed a NIM policy document which assists in driving the NIM processes in the organisation. The policy includes guidance on T&CG meetings including attendees and frequency. Adhering to the policy document will promote corporacy in processes and systems across the force and, indeed, templates for certain documents have been included in the policy.
Communication
Strathclyde Police
The corporate communications department has embraced the NIM and has driven progress in marketing the NIM within the force. A good example of their involvement was evidenced in the innovative use of computer screen savers to communicate key areas of the force intelligence requirement to staff.
Central Scotland Police
The team was impressed with the force’s communication of its overarching priorities via the four pillars of the Safer Central campaign. It was noted that this provided clear direction and structure to the force’s activities. The force’s four priority philosophy is clearly marketed at all levels throughout the force leaving staff in no doubt as to the strategic direction of the organisation.
Strathclyde Police ‘K’ Division
In Feb 2007 Strathclyde K Division held a ‘Planning Day’ chaired by the Ch Supt. Thirty one staff representing all ranks and departments from across the Division attended and were split into 6 syndicates with a portfolio lead. The syndicates discussed action plans for each of the priorities. Each syndicate gave feedback on their discussions and the action plans agreed in principle. These included the commissioning of intelligence products, use of trigger plans, custody debriefs to glean actionable intelligence and involvement of partners.
The NIM Team felt that the planning day was an excellent way to involve staff and fully supported the use of the National Intelligence Model principles. Evidence of their marketing strategy was also found on all notice boards within the building. Of particular note is that during their internal consultation in November 2006, K Division found that 97% of staff were aware of their Control Strategy and Intelligence Requirement.
Strathclyde Police Television
An innovative development currently under review by Strathclyde Police is the use of an internal DVD television production highlighting the Force Control Strategy 2007/08. The DVD runs for 14 minutes and highlights the six crime and disorder priorities identified by the Force. Circulated Force wide the production is intended to raise the awareness of all staff as to the force’s priorities.
